G3TXQ Broadband Hexbeam Fibreglass Centerpost

Fibreglass centre post with coax housed inside for maximum weather protection, 48mm OD to fit in to a D 131 Tube clamp or our Centre Hub. Fibreglass tubing is made from industry standard scaffold pole which has a 6mm thick wall, this is very very strong. All the coax is housed inside for maximum weather protection and is RG 213 military grade or higher, depends what I have in stock at the time. A zinc eyelet is fixed to the top for all the support cords to connect to as shown below.

The stub-mast is fixed to the centre-post and is made from 35mm T6 tubing with a 3.5mm thick wall. The stub is then inserted into the hub, and secured with two M8 x 75 stainless steel machine screws fitted with ny-lock nuts and washers. All holes are pre-drilled.

post top is filled with body filler and a plastic protective cap is fitted for extra weather protection! The antenna is fed from the top by splitting the coax as shown below, a minus sign is marked on the post as an indication as to where to attach the braid, the centre obviously goes to the other side. Attach the 20m wire elements to the same feed-points. Make sure to water proof the coax well! You can used liquid tape or heat-shrink and hot glue as I have below but this is really up to you.

1:1 balun feed method, this is simply 1 metre of RG-213 coax with split end as above on one end and a PL-259 and SO-239 double female connector fitted to the other end.. The SO-239 is fitted so you just connect your coax run from the shack to this and water proof. Six FB-31-1020 ferrite rings are suitable and can be obtained from www.hexkits.com in the USA.  UK users can go to www.sycomcomp.co.uk.  Slip six rings over the coax and hold them in place with tape or cable ties as shown below.  Using this connection method, if water does get into this short cable section you won’t have to replace the whole coax run back to the shack. As from Jan 2011 I can supply this ready made for £35

All feed points fitted are stainless steel and the post is sprayed to give it a finished appearance.
